PDX favorites

As far as business trip destinations go, you can do a lot worse than Portland. This time it included visits to some old favorites and new to me gems.

Unfortunately, I don’t have a picture of the burger from Clyde Common but holy crap, it was amazing. It’s one of those burgers that’s big enough you wonder how you’re going to get it in your mouth. Add-ons of a fried egg, bacon and blue cheese didn’t make it any easier but it was worth every bite.

For drinks, we stopped by the Multnomah Whiskey Library. They keep the crowd small so everyone has a seat and the whiskey can be savored. This place is as beautiful as the whiskey is plentiful and it’s topped off with impeccable service.

Kask was a new one for me, but the mixologists know what they’re doing. From the fun flaming drink to a punch made with creme de violette, we could not have been happier. And sitting at the bar, we witnessed firsthand all the goodness. It’s a cocktail lover’s dream.

Thanks, McCoy’s!

Now that’s message discipline: a bike rack fit for the beer emporium Flying Saucer in downtown Raleigh.

Half Moon Bay

If you ever find yourself in the Bay Area, it’s worth the drive to Half Moon Bay. The 60 degree weather was a welcome respite from the heat wave scorching the rest of the country and the quaint downtown seems worlds away from the city.

There aren’t a ton of options if you’re looking to belly up to a bar, but Sam Benito on Main (which also hosts a guest house and full restaurant) was my pick for the day. Between the house-cured meat and 20 beers on tap, I’d be a happy girl. But the hospitality of Walter the bartender made this a must return spot. The beer was pricier than I expected (around $7/pint) but the homemade pizza was only $3.25 and the locals made us feel welcome.
